Kiosk Konversations // in conversation with our very own Daniela, founder and curator of Ferment Kiosk

For this edition of our kiosk konversations, we did an interview with our very own Daniela Wiebogen, the founder of “Ferment Kiosk” and one of the creatives of the pop-up “Coffee, Pillows, Books, and the Moon”. “Ferment Kiosk” brings indie food magazines from independent publishers around the world to Vienna and curates a carefully selected assortment of beautifully made magazines and books on food, travel, and lifestyle.
In our kiosk konversation Daniela talks about her love for books and magazines:
Our aim is to support independent publishers and showcase their unique perspectives on food, drinks, and culture.
Daniela, could you introduce yourself and share a little about your label and its philosophy?

I'm Daniela, the founder of Ferment Kiosk, Vienna's first culinary kiosk. At Ferment Kiosk, we're on a mission to celebrate the diverse world of food and drinks through indie publications sourced globally. Our philosophy is rooted in the empowerment of independent publishers, each offering a unique perspective on the intersection of food, drinks, and culture. As someone who works in the food business and is passionate about artisan food producers, I believe in the importance of promoting small-scale, sustainable businesses also with our passion project “Ferment Kiosk”.

As one of the featured creatives at the upcoming "Coffee, Pillows, Books, and the Moon" pop-up event, what can visitors expect to see from your brand?

Guests visiting our pop-up at "Coffee, Pillows, Books, and the Moon" can look forward to an exquisite selection of indie food and drinks magazines sourced from all corners of the globe. Our range spans from captivating coffee and tea publications to artisanal wine journals and vibrant food culture zines. Our focus lies in the pursuit of quality, craftsmanship, and the genuine passion that fuels each publication. To add to the experience, we're also showcasing some of our favorite culinary novels, cook books and coffee table books—a perfect complement for a cozy weekend read.

In your opinion, what are the essential elements for a perfectly cozy weekend?

To craft the ideal cozy weekend, simplicity is the key. Begin with delightful beverages; personally, I find specialty coffee brewed with care or the tranquility of Japanese green tea to be delightful choices. Create a cocoon of comfort with plush blankets, soft pillows, and perhaps the warm glow of candles. A gentle jazz soundtrack can set the mood. And, of course, a captivating book or magazine to transport you to distant realms is an absolute must.

How do you typically take your coffee during a leisurely weekend?

My approach to coffee isn't confined to leisurely weekends; it's a daily ritual I relish. I take my time to savor the process. Beginning with freshly roasted beans sourced from my favourite Viennese roaster – “Süssmund” – I grind them meticulously. I then prepare a rich cappuccino, crafting each element - from the espresso to the milk foam. An additional layer of pleasure comes from selecting a handmade cup, each one collected from specialty coffee shops across the globe. These cups are always made by local ceramics artisans cooperation with the coffee shops and serve as cherished mementos of my travels. As I sit down with my coffee and a new magazine from our kiosk, it's an opportunity to immerse myself in flavors, stories from the magazines, and the travel memories evoked by the cup itself.

When you’re looking to relax and unwind, where is your go-to spot?

My go-to spot to curl up with a comfortable pillow is undoubtedly my reading chair at home. I have a large, soft, and cozy blanket, along with some fluffy pillows that I love to snuggle up with. I also have a pleasant view of the courtyard with its lush trees from our apartment window, making it the perfect spot to relax, unwind, and immerse myself in a good book.

Do you have a book recommendation that you believe would be perfect for a cozy weekend?

For a perfect weekend read, I would highly recommend "Book Lovers" by Emily Henry. It's a delightful and heartwarming romantic comedy that follows the story of Nora, a fierce literary agent whose life revolves around books, and Charlie, her work nemesis who is an expert in creating bestsellers. When the two meet at a vacation destination, there's a plot twist they didn't see coming. It's the perfect book to curl up with on a lazy afternoon and enjoy some light-hearted escapism.
