Kiosk Konversations // in conversation with Petra Wieser, founder and creative of Mindful Design & Craft

Petra Wieser from label “Mindful Design and Craft” is our second featured creative from our pop-up “Coffee, Pillows, Books, and the Moon”. Based in Sankt Pölten, Petra designs objects that promote sustainable living and encourage conscious and mindful behavior.
In our kiosk konversation Petra shares her passion for creating handmade porcelain objects and how she incorporates mindfulness into her craft:
“My vision is to design minimalist objects that positively influence the everyday life of their users.”
Could you introduce yourself and share a little about your label and its idea/ philosophy?

Hi, my name is Petra Wieser and I’m a designer and maker. 2019 I founded my studio “Mindful Design and Craft”, after studying "Manual and Material Culture" at New Design University St.Pölten.

My vision is to design minimalist objects that positively influence the everyday life of their users. To bring them to life, I love working together with local crafts(wo)men, because I’m convinced, that cooperation with passionate experts leads to functional and long-lasting products with character. My current product is the “Mindful Design Coffee Brewer”, developed together with Felix Teiretzbacher (Felix Kaffee).

As one of the featured creatives at the upcoming "Coffee, Pillows, Books, and the Moon" pop-up event, what can visitors expect to see from your brand?

Visitors of the event will experience the process of manual brewing with our coffee brewer and will have the chance to taste freshly brewed filter coffee prepared by myself and roasted of course by world coffee roasting champion 2022 Felix Teiretzbacker (Kaffeelix).

In your opinion, what are the essential elements for a perfectly cozy weekend?

A full cup of freshly brewed filter coffee, enjoyed in soft and relaxing clothes. When thinking about coziness, the sound of rain drops on the rooftop windows is also an essential element for me to calm down and to enjoy some time off.

How do you typically take/ prepare your coffee during a leisurely weekend?

For me, it makes no difference whether I prepare my coffee during the week or on a leisurely weekend. I always take the time to enjoy my coffee - even if that means getting up 5 minutes earlier to grind the beans fresh. It has become a ritual that I need to get ready for the day.

When you’re looking to relax and unwind, where is your go-to spot to curl up with a comfortable pillow?

I have a hanging chair in our attic and this is my safe haven. Equipped with a comfortable pillow it is the perfect spot to take a quick power nap.

Do you have a book recommendation that you believe would be perfect for a cozy weekend?

Yes. Since I mentioned that I like my cosy weekends rainy, I'd recommend "Regen" by Christian Sauer. He focuses on the positive aspects of rain and shows an inspiring and beautiful approach to this weather phenomenon.
